Dr. Leon Margolin

About Leon Margolin, MD, PhD, FAPMR, FAPM

Leon Margolin, MD, PhD, FAPMR, FAPM, is an accomplished pain medicine specialist recognized for his clinical expertise, academic contributions, and unwavering commitment to patient-centered care. Double board-certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine via Anesthesiology based fellowship, Dr. Margolin demonstrates a comprehensive, compassionate approach to treating high risk patients with acute and chronic pain conditions. He enjoys referrals from major hospitals including Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Ohio State University system, Ohio Health, Mt Carmel, Adena and others.

A recognized leader in his field, Dr. Margolin is the recipient of numerous research and clinical honors, among them the New York State Resident Award, the Fellow Award of the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain, a national chapter of  American College of Physicians award, the  first-place distinction by the Medical Society of Pennsylvania Award, alongside the Pfizer Scholars in Pain Management Award. In recognition of clinical excellence, he has earned Patient’s Choice and Compassionate Doctor Awards in multiple years.

He has authored more than 50 research presentations and publications, including recent peer-reviewed research—most notably in the International Journal of Risk & Safety in Medicine: Misguided medical insurance and government policies in the opioid epidemic: A chart review and NARX score analysis. He has also produced free YouTube videos and community materials to help combat the opioid crisis. Beyond his clinical and research distinction, Dr. Margolin has shown sterling integrity in advocating for vulnerable, high-risk patients—at significant personal, professional, and financial cost amid retaliation by insurers and government agencies, as documented in his white paper (White-Paper-SBIRT.pdf). Applying a Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment approach since 2011, he has helped safeguard more than 3,500 individuals through diagnosis and referral to addiction medicine.

His work has been endorsed by leading experts, including Dr. Lynn Webster, former President of the American Academy of Pain Medicine (letter of support). Dr. Margolin was honored with the Ohio Top Doctor Award in 2021, 2025, and 2026.
